Factors That Can Affect User Experience

User experience plays an important role in deciding whether your product can succeed or not in the market. In recent years, developers try to improve the usefulness of user experience, it is the beginning rule for any product. Therefore, UX has evolved to be more relevant and supply successful items to the market. According to the description of Peter Morville – a pioneer in the field of UX, seven elements can affect user experience like:

  • Useful
  • Usability
  • Easy to find
  • Reliable
  • Worth desiring
  • Accessible
  • Valuable

Now, let’s find out those factors with us!

First of all, please pay attention to the usefulness of your product when thinking of UX design. Let’s answer questions like: Whether this product can be useful or not? Why do you want to supply it to the market? Because users always focus on the function of a product, so if it doesn’t have a clear purpose, it is very difficult for it to have a position and compete with other items. Besides that basic benefits, developers need to concern about unrealistic benefits like play or aesthetics. Therefore, a useful computer game or artwork is that users find meaningful. The second factor is usability, the usability of a product will help developers achieve their ultimate goal effectively. For example, if you create a computer game with three sets of control pads, it’s very inconvenient for customers when they want to play alone, they obligate to play with other people. The mobile application is only on customers’ mobile phones and they will use it anywhere.

Typically, poor usefulness usually appears on the first devices, they can be called “the pioneer applications”. Because most developers don’t have much experience at that time, they can’t update full of technicals for building a good application. So, their product can only survive for a short time. As you see, the first MP3 player lost its position when the iPod – a product with greater usefulness was launched. The iPod was not the first music player but it was the first truly useful music player. iPod’s designers collected feedbacks from users with an MP3 player and used it to update their latest invention. From that, they were able to create a better and more useful device.

The next element that is very necessary for an application is to be found easily. That would mean all of the contents inside your application have to easy to find. Of course, if you can’t find any product, you will not use it. So, we will lose several potential customers. For instance, when reading a book, if all stories or status are distributed in the space of the pages at random, they don’t follow by a certain and clear order. Moreover, those stories are not arranged into sections such as sports, entertainment, business, etc. This will lead to a bad mood for customers when using the product. Let’s focus on this element because it is very important to the user experience of many products.

In addition to the above factors, users are very interested in your application whether reliable or not. Credibility is what users believe in the products you offer. Its survival time on the market will help you know if your product is suitable and exact to its original purpose. Moreover, when users choosing a product, they will care about the accuracy of the information, the content is not clear and false will make users doubt and lose trust in your product.

After that, they will look for another alternative product. Furthermore, Desire is conveyed in designs through brand, image, identity, aesthetics, and emotional design. A product as many people crave, they will tend to recommend it to many other users, create additional revenue streams for the company. For example, you have two different bags, one comes to Channel brand and one is a normal brand. Of course, you will choose the Channel’s bag because it is a famous brand and has a high value, if you own it, you can show your position and become more fashionable. Despite the same use, but most customers will concern about the brand, material, and style more than efficiency.

Two final elements on the description of Peter Morville are the accessibility and value of the product. Accessibility is the provision of an experience that all users can access – including people with disabilities. Most designers often overlook this factor when creating UX because they think it will cost a lot of money for businesses, but that is an incorrect thought. Your customers include many different audiences, you should not only focus on one part of the user but ignore the wishes of others. Regardless of who they are, they will bring great revenue for your business and contribute to assert your company’s position on the market. Keep in mind that when you design accessibility, you must create products that are easier to use for everyone, not just a certain audience. Do not ignore accessibility in UX. Finally, the product must provide value to the user. It must provide value to the business that creates it, to the buyer or user. Otherwise, the initial success of the product will be reduced.

To sum up, if you want to develop your product and become a close friend with users, let’s pay attention to those elements and improve them more and more.
