About the IT Infrastructure Engineer (Collaboration) role

The IT Infrastructure Engineer (Collaboration) is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing enterprise collaboration platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace to support secure and efficient communication and productivity. This role leads migration and modernization initiatives, including transitioning on-premises systems to cloud-based environments, while ensuring minimal disruption and strong user adoption. The engineer monitors system performance, provides advanced technical support, and enforces security and compliance standards across collaboration tools. Working closely with stakeholders, the role also drives automation, develops governance policies, supports cross-platform integration, and delivers scalable solutions that enhance collaboration, user experience, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Execution & Engineering

  • Deep M365 Administration: Develop, deploy, and manage the M365 and Google Workspace collaboration suite, diving deep into SharePoint Online (site architecture, intranet solutions, document management), Microsoft Teams (governance policies, channel management, voice/video integration), and OneDrive for Business (storage allocation, synchronization troubleshooting, data lifecycle)
  • Migration & Modernization: Plan and lead large-scale infrastructure transformation efforts, specifically executing migrations from on-premises SharePoint to SharePoint Online. This includes seamlessly migrating complex SharePoint file collaboration sites and custom applications to the cloud while ensuring minimal business disruption and strong user adoption
  • Service Monitoring & Support: Continuously monitor the health, performance, and usage of M365 and Google Workspace services, providing advanced technical support for complex M365-related issues and proactively optimizing configurations
  • Data Security & Compliance:  Implement robust security measures across all collaboration platforms using Identity Management (Active Directory, Entra AD) and security products (Intune, Defender, Purview) to ensure shared data complies with cyber and data security standards
  • Cross-Platform Integration: Administer and integrate secondary enterprise productivity platforms ensuring seamless interoperability with the primary Microsoft backend services
  • Automation: Engineer for scalability by building reusable automation and utilizing PowerShell scripting and related tools like PowerBI, Dynatrace and Axonius to monitor service health and reporting to derive insights
  • Scripting & API: Use PowerShell, Bash, and Python to automate repetitive tasks and interact with the Microsoft Graph API for custom reporting. End-User Enablement: Create comprehensive documentation, self-service guides, and conduct training sessions for end-users to drive the effective adoption of collaboration tools

2. General Responsibilities

  • Engage stakeholders to translate business requirement into design and services to meet the intended availability, capacity, resiliency, security and continuity requirements
  • Forecast budget needed to support the project initiatives and maintenance contracts
  • Ensure client’s related Technical Architecture are in compliance with IM8 and Agency’s IT Policies and Standards
  • Manage day-to-day delivery and support of application infrastructure services and collaborate with other government agencies and central services teams to facilitate and deliver government-wide services

3. Leadership & Strategic Alignment

  • End-to-End Delivery: Lead the deployment and service design for large-scale rollouts of new collaboration features and productivity software
  • Policy Development: Develop organization policies, governance standards, and standard operating procedures for M365 tools, collaborating with security teams to meet regulatory needs
  • Project Ownership: Take full ownership of broad, ambiguously-scoped rollouts, ensuring successful outcomes, proactive risk mitigation, and seamless change management for end-users
  • Mentorship & Improvement: Mentor junior team members, synthesize usage data into clear recommendations for leadership, and constructively challenge existing processes to drive continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Collaboration & Migration Mastery: At least 3 years of proven experience in the development and management of the Google Workspace and M365 ecosystem, with deep technical expertise in SharePoint Online (including hands-on experience with on premises to cloud migrations), Teams, OneDrive, and Exchange Online
  • Security & Identity Knowledge: Strong technical background in Identity Management (Active Directory, Entra AD) and endpoint security products (Intune, Defender, Purview)
  • Automation-First Mindset: Advanced proficiency in optimizing and automating crossplatform workflows using PowerShell scripting and MS Graph API
  • Analytical Rigor: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to conceptualize the operations of new productivity initiatives and act as a liaison between internal security/operations teams and external product principals
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting effectively to non-technical audiences and creating comprehensive end-user documentation
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate, or ITIL certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proactive and dedicated individual with good leadership and multi-tasking capabilities as well as the ability to work independently without the need for close supervision
  • Experienced in contract and vendor management
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to pitch ideas and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Team player with strong organization and people handling skills
