About the Backend Developer role

The Backend Developer supports the design, development, and delivery of secure and reliable digital solutions within an agile environment. Working closely with the Lead and a team of engineers, this role contributes to building and maintaining platforms that meet high standards of availability, capacity, security, and business continuity in accordance with government technology policies and standards. The developer applies strong JavaScript expertise and full-stack development knowledge to support backend services, integrations, and platform operations, while collaborating across teams to adopt industry best practices. The role also involves supporting operational stability, troubleshooting system and network issues, and continuously learning new technologies to enhance platform performance and resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lead on agile development and delivery of solutions
  • Function within a team of like-minded engineers to ensure that the platform are operating optimally in terms of availability, capacity, security & business continuity
  • Plan, manage, implement project and operation to Government technology standards and policy
  • Review and recommend relevant industry best practices for Government IT infrastructure/SMP for adoption

Requirements:

  • Strong JavaScript Developer with actual hands-on experience
  • Motivated individual willing to learn new technologies
  • Working experience with ServiceNow / equivalent platforms
  • Full stack development experience covering JavaScript (Node.js, ReactJS, TypeScript, and vanilla JavaScript), CSS, and AngularJS, with hands-on AWS exposure including EKS and serverless services, and the ability to understand and troubleshoot basic network and system issues

Preferred qualifications:

  • Able to communicate well
  • Ability to manage and follow through projects
  • Technical skills including Python, Bash scripting, PowerShell scripting, and knowledge of ITIL practices
