About the IT Infrastructure Engineer role

The IT Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the operations, security, and optimisation of end-user computing, cloud, and on-premise infrastructure within a Whole-of-Government (WoG) environment. This role manages the lifecycle of endpoint devices, oversees Microsoft 365 services, and ensures stable operations across Government Commercial Cloud (GCC/GCC+) and Wintel facilities through patching, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery. The engineer ensures compliance with WoG security policies and IM8 standards, leads incident root-cause analysis, manages vendors and SLAs, and supports infrastructure projects from procurement through deployment. Acting as a bridge between technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders, the role provides technical guidance, reporting, and continuous improvement across enterprise infrastructure services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-User Computing Operations: Manage the lifecycle of Whole-of-Government (WoG) endpoint devices, including Windows, iOS, and Android platforms. Operate and maintain end-user computing software deployment, patch management, and device compliance. Manage and optimise the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint) and other Whole-of-Government (WoG) tools. Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of end-user computing issues with End-User Support Service (EUSS) vendors, and provide technical support and guidance to end-users
  • Cloud Systems and On-Premise Wintel Facilities Operations: Manage operations and maintenance of cloud infrastructure on Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) and GCC+ platforms, and on-premise Wintel facilities including periodic patching, daily health checks, backup and disaster recovery supported by Agency Facilities Tenant Management (ATFM) vendors. Ensure ATFM vendors monitor cloud and on-premise resource utilisation and optimise costs whilst maintaining performance requirements. Oversee implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools like Terraform or ARM templates on cloud platforms
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure all infrastructure components and end-user services comply with WoG policies, practices, and Instruction Manual 8 (IM8). Implement security measures including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Access Control Management, Zero Trust security models, endpoint protection, and encryption
  • Incident & Vendor Management: Lead root cause analysis for complex technical issues and oversee performance of external service providers to ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Procurement & Project Management: Draft technical specifications for government tenders (ITQ/RFQ/Period Contracts). Lead infrastructure projects from planning through deployment to operations. Coordinate with cross-functional teams including security, networking, and application teams during project execution. Manage vendors during project implementations to ensure timelines and compliance requirements are met
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a bridge to provide technical guidance between technical teams, clients end-users, and management. This includes presenting and reporting on cloud, on-premise, and end-user service reports and project status updates

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in IT Service Management
  • Experience across one or more domains including Azure or AWS cloud platforms, on-premise Wintel infrastructure, and end-user computing environments
  • Certifications such as Microsoft (MCSA, MCSE, Azure Administrator or Azure Solutions Architect), AWS (Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator), ITIL Foundation, or PMP are advantageous
  • End-User Computing:
    • Windows 10/11 deployment and management (SCCM, Intune, WSUS)
    • Endpoint management, patching, compliance reporting
    • Microsoft 365 operations, Entra ID, Intune MDM integration
  • Cloud & On-Premise:
    • GCC / GCC+ platform management (AWS or Azure)
    • Cloud services: EC2, S3, Azure Storage, Azure AD, ARM templates
    • Cloud networking: VPC/VNet, subnets, NSG, load balancers
    • Monitoring & logging: CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, CloudTrail
    • Cost optimisation and resource tagging
