About the job

About the DevOps / Platform Engineering role

The DevOps / Platform Engineer is responsible for building and supporting cloud-based digital products and services, with a focus on reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure and application delivery. The role involves developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or OpenTofu, designing CI/CD pipelines with GitLab, and deploying containerised applications using Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, and Amazon EKS. The engineer will also manage cloud networking, observability, monitoring, logging, alerting, production operations, incident response, and performance optimisation while implementing security and compliance controls. Working closely with development, security, and infrastructure teams, the role supports cloud modernisation, government system integrations, and the development of reusable platform capabilities that improve delivery efficiency and operational resilience.

  • Design, develop, and maintain cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines to support reliable application delivery
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or OpenTofu
  • Design, implement, and enhance CI/CD pipelines, particularly using GitLab, to enable automated and reliable software delivery
  • Deploy, manage, and support containerised applications using Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, and/or Amazon EKS
  • Implement deployment automation and engineering practices that improve release efficiency, consistency, and reliability
  • Design and manage cloud networking components to support secure and highly available applications and services
  • Establish and maintain observability, monitoring, logging, and alerting practices across cloud and production environments
  • Support production operations, including troubleshooting, incident response, performance optimisation, and service recovery
  • Implement security controls covering authentication, authorisation, encryption, audit logging, and secure system configuration
  • Ensure infrastructure and platform services comply with applicable security, governance, and compliance requirements
  • Support the integration of systems across government agencies and external partners
  • Contribute to the modernisation of existing Java-based and platform applications through cloud-native and DevOps practices
  • Collaborate with development, security, and infrastructure teams to improve automated testing, engineering quality, and operational resilience
