About the job
About the UX Designer role
The UX Designer is responsible for transforming complex government workflows into intuitive, accessible, and user-friendly digital experiences. This role drives the end-to-end design process—from research and discovery to wireframing, prototyping, and final delivery—ensuring solutions balance user needs with business and technical requirements.
Working closely with stakeholders, product managers, and engineers, the UX Designer champions user-centred design by conducting research, analysing insights, and iterating based on feedback. The role requires strong empathy, clear communication, and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical, visually engaging solutions within an agile environment. A solid portfolio, proficiency in tools such as Figma, and at least three years of UX or product design experience are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transform Complexity into Clarity: Take complex, technical government workflows and distill them into accessible, intuitive, and user-friendly solutions
- Champion User-Centric Design: Consult with stakeholders and end-users to deeply understand their needs. Advocate for the user perspective throughout the product development lifecycle
- End-to-End Design Execution: Drive the design process from conceptualisation to delivery. Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that balance user needs with business goals
- Lead Research Initiatives: Plan and conduct user research activities—including usability testing, contextual inquiries, interviews, and surveys—to uncover pain points and validate design decisions
- Data-Driven Iteration: Analyse research findings and user feedback to propose technically feasible solutions and continuous improvements to our products
- Collaborate & Influence: Work closely with product managers and engineers to ensure design feasibility and fidelity. Present design rationale clearly to stakeholders, fostering a shared understanding of user value
Requirements:
- Minimum 3+ years of professional experience in User Experience (UX) or Product Design
- A strong portfolio demonstrating a solid understanding of the User-Centered Design (UCD) process, including research, prototyping, and visual design skills
- Proficiency in industry-standard design tools (e.g., Figma, illustrator) and prototyping tools.
- Technical Understanding: Familiarity with web technologies (HTML/CSS) and use of AI to communicate effectively with developers (coding skills are a plus, but not required)
Preferred Qualifications:
- User Empathy: You have a genuine ability to step into the shoes of the user and understand their frustrations and motivations
- Communication: You are an articulate presenter and an active listener, capable of explaining complex design decisions to non-designers
- Organisational Skills: You can manage multiple work-streams effectively and priorities tasks in a fast-paced agile environment
- Team Spirit: You are a collaborative team player who thrives on feedback and loves solving problems with others
